Hi, my name is Sam Vadivelu, and I’m a rising senior in New York. While volunteering at local senior living facilities, I observed the struggle of patients in completing the activities of daily living (ex. brushing, tying shoes, dressing). These activities might seem mundane to us, but for people with neurological diseases, it is often very difficult to do the steps of these activities in the correct order. This is called apraxia.

I wanted to address apraxia in seniors, so I decided to create posters with step-by-step instructions to ensure that seniors do the activities in the right order. I also created interactive tactile puzzles designed to help seniors practice sequencing .

I founded ShoesOverSocks to help seniors maintain their independence and dignity across the nation. If you are a volunteer interested in making a difference for the elderly in your community, a senior, or a caregiver, this site is for you.
